How Does Gigabit internet work
Gigabit internet works in the same way as full fibre broadband, meaning it uses fibre optic cables to connect direct to your home. Full fibre is currently being rolled out across the UK to more and more homes, but Gigabit internet remains more of a future proposition.
At TalkTalk, we currently offer full fibre broadband, with speeds of up to 944 Mb/s – which is just shy of the 1000 Mb/s offered by Gigabit broadband. If full fibre isn’t yet available where you are, we also offer a range of part fibre broadband packages (or fibre to the cabinet, FTTC). Fibre optic cables carry broadband from your supplier to a cabinet on your street then copper cables to connect to your home, which is why it’s also called fibre to the cabinet (FTTC).
