What is wireless broadband?
Wireless broadband lets you connect to the internet without needing to plug your device into a socket. No cables, no clutter, just great Wi-Fi. You connect through a wireless router, giving you fast, flexible access to the internet. At TalkTalk, our wireless broadband comes as part-fibre or Full Fibre broadband, so, from 65 Mbps to 900 Mbps, you can pick the speed that suits your home.
How does a wireless broadband router work?
A wireless broadband router takes your broadband connection and turns it into a Wi-Fi signal. It sends that signal through radio waves, making it super-fast and easy for your devices to get online, no cables needed. Just smooth, seamless internet throughout your home.
With TalkTalk broadband, you’ll get a Wi-Fi Hub that’s built to reach those tricky corners of your home. And with TalkTalk Full Fibre broadband, you get our Hub 3 as standard, packed with award-winning tech for stronger, faster connections across more devices.

Is wireless internet better than wired?
It depends on what you need, but for most homes, wireless broadband is the winner. With Wi-Fi, you can connect from anywhere in your home, on any device. No cables. No faff. Just great internet.
Wired broadband does offer strong, stable speeds, but you and your router will need to be joined at the hip. It’s great for gamers or home offices, but not so handy if you want to browse in bed or from the sofa.
What other types of wireless broadband are there?
Aside from Wi-Fi, there are other types of wireless broadband, often grouped under Fixed Wireless Access broadband (FWA).
4G/5G broadband - this is where you use a 4G/5G dongle and plug it directly into the USB port on your laptop, or into a router
Satellite broadband - a type of wireless internet that uses satellites in space to send and receive data
Microwave broadband - mainly used by large businesses, this needs a clear line of sight between two antennas
