One Direction have finished third in The X Factor final.
The boy band cast their eyes to the ground when they learnt they'd been kicked out, then hugged fellow contestant Rebecca Ferguson who had just found out she'd made it to the final.
The boys, who were put together as a band after entering as solo singers, won the votes - and screams - of hoards of teenage girls, and were universally praised by the judges throughout the competition.
Band member Louis Tomlinson said of their time on the show: "It's been absolutely incredible, for me the highlight of our time was when we first sang together at Judges' Houses."
Zain Malik elicited huge cheers by announcing: "We're definitely going to stay together, this isn't the last of One Direction."

Their mentor Simon Cowell said he was "absolutely gutted for them" but added: "All I can say is this is just the beginning for these boys."
