A look at the five contenders for Best Film at the 2010 BAFTAS.
Astonishingly, the last time James Cameron featured at the BAFTAS with Titanic, he picked up a grand total of zero awards, losing out to films such as LA Confidential, Shakespeare in Love and, erm, The Wings of the Dove.
Danish director Lone Scherfig is one of the many females nominated in a strong year for women. Her previous films include Italian For Beginners and Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself.
Made on a comparatively tiny budget of $11m, and hardly something of a commercial success (its current worldwide take is just short of $14m), The Hurt Locker has been the critics’ favourite this year, sweeping the board at the key awards ceremonies so far.
Another low-budget success, Precious first came into the limelight at last year’s Sundance Festival, and boasts Oprah Winfrey as Executive Director.
Director Jason Reitman is the son of Hollywood legend Ivan Reitman, who made Ghostbusters, Stripes and Meatballs in the 1980s.
