An Education
Rising star Carey Mulligan was 22 when she played the role of the 16-year-old central character, and nabbed an Oscar nomination for Best Actress as well.
Fish Tank
Director Andrea Arnold started off as an actress, and was best known in the 1980s as one of the presenters of the children’s Saturday morning show No. 73.
In The Loop
The spin-off from the TV comedy The Thick Of It was one of the most successful British films of the last twelve months and was a surprise inclusion in the Oscar category for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Moon
Director Duncan Jones is of course the son of David Bowie, and the song ‘Kooks’ from Bowie’s album Hunky Dory was written for him.
Nowhere Boy
Artist-turned-director Sam Taylor-Wood loved her leading man (Aaron Johnson) so much that she ended up marrying him, despite a 25 year age gap (she is 44).
