Starr lights up hollywood walk of fame

Beatles drummer Ringo Starr made history on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday evening (08Feb10) - becoming the first celebrity to unveil a sidewalk star at night.

The musician's friends and family joined stars including David Lynch, Eric Idle and Noah Wyle for the unveiling ceremony in Los Angeles, which marked the 50th anniversary of the iconic landmark and the first unveiling completed after dark.

Starr became the 2,401st star on the Walk of Fame, unveiling the plaque outside the fabled Capitol Records Building, where his late Beatles bandmates George Harrison and John Lennon already have pavement honours.

Sir Paul McCartney is now the only member of the group who hasn't received a tribute.

And Starr admits he's proud of the permanent reminder of his career.

He tells the Associated Press, "This is the start of the next 50 years of stars. I'm proud to be the first one. It's cool to get one at night. I don't know about you, but where I live, the stars come out at night."
