All about this star

In a nutshell

Growing up in London from a Jewish family, Matt Lucas ended up suffering from alopecia (ie, a loss of hair from your head and body) because, as he's claimed in interviews, he had a delayed reaction to a traffic accident when he was four. By the age of six he'd lost of all his hair.

We first remember seeing Matt in Shooting Stars, the quiz show hosted by Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. Matt's character, George Dawes, was basically a giant baby (we think Matt's lack of hair really helped his 'delivery' of this character) who said utterly random things before giving out the team scores.

Matt writes and stars in Little Britain with David Walliams. Starting out as a radio comedy, the show was a massive hit when it hit our screens. Matt has played some of the most memorable characters including Andy (you know, the one in the wheelchair who keeps getting up!), Vicky Pollard and the only gay in the village, Daffyd Thomas.

Openly gay, Matt got married (it was a civil partnership, keep up!) to his partner Kevin McGee in 2006. After a big, lavish affair, we all wanted them to be happy together forever. But things didn't quite work out like that, with the pair divorcing (a dissolution of the civil partnership, keep up!) in 2008, citing unreasonable behaviour by McGee. McGee later committed suicide in 2009. In our dreams Matt and David will get together, have lots of puppies and keep the world laughing forever. But that really is just a dream :(

Did you know?

Marjorie Dawes, the Fat Fighting character from Little Britain, is the mother of George Dawes, the huge baby from Shooting Stars. Genius!
