In a nutshell

It's so very easy to laugh at David Hasselhoff. I mean, you're probably laughing now. But, 'The Hoff' is credited with being the most watched TV star in THE WORLD and that's no easy thing to do. Especially when you've got things like Big Brother to contend with. But, thanks to Baywatch (the show you used to see slow-motion running in) he's been given his own entry into the Guinness Book of Records.

But it isn't just Baywatch that Hoff has to thank for being transmitted around the world. He played Dr. William Foster in 'The Young and the Restless' between 1975 and 1982, before meeting up with a talking car (known as Kitt) in the hit series Knight Rider from 1982 until 1986.

It's funny how, if somebody is loathed in some countries, they're massively popular in others. David falls into this category. Although he wasn't hated he certainly wasn't being taken very seriously either. When he launched his singing career that was the final straw. But, fans in Germany went absolutely wild for him ? and to this day we still don't know why.

But you've got to give credit to the guy ? he's managed to hang around through all of the criticism. For the last few years he's been a judge ? thanks to Simon Cowell ? on America'a Got Talent, alongside Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan. And from what we've seen of the show, Sharon isn't much of a Hoff fan!

David got divorced from his wife Pamela Bach (stick an 'e' in there and it'd spell beach! They had beaches in Baywatch! Haha, etc) in 2006 after 16 years together. By 2007 he'd won joint custody of his two daughters, Taylor and Hayley.

Hoff had a high-profile concert lined up in 1994, hoping to re-ignite his singing career. Unfortunately it was on the same night that OJ Simpson was chased down a motorway. Limelight... gone.
