Golden Globe nominated Anna, from Rochdale, has been acting her socks off since the age of 13 in various films and television shows. But the one that always seems to come back and haunt her - and yes, we're going to mention it now simply because we can! - is that lesbian kiss in Brookside, something that turned out to be one of the most talked about moments in the history of soap. At least in the UK, anyway. Managing to leave a soap and actually continue a successful career is often a difficult task to achieve, but Anna seems to be getting the hang of it.

Always seeming to enjoy a bit of controversy, Anna again got herself caught in the headlines when she appeared in 'The Tribe', a television movie featuring a threesome. How shocking! Look away now, kids...

It's always nice to hear of a romantic encounter on a plane, don't you think? Now come on, we don't mean that sort of encounter! But Anna met her partner, fellow actor David Thewlis, on a flight to Cannes. They've now got a daughter, Gracie Ellen Mary Friel who was born in 2005. Happy endings are never a bad thing...
