She shot to fame stealing scenes from Lindsay Lohan in Mean Girls but the 24 year old American actress is anything but an LA airhead.
She started out in that most unfortunate of professions being a child model at the age of 11 before concentrating on acting. She had a very lucky break going from relative obscurity in daytime US soaps to being offered the role of the so-called 'plastic' bimbo Karen in Mean Girls (2004).
From here she made a couple more films before being recruited for the popular HBO show Big Love, about a polygamist Mormon and his family whilst simultaneously starring in murder series Veronica Mars with Kristen Bell. Amanda Segfried was clearly no jobbing actor.
Even bigger things came when she landed the role of Meryl Streep's daughter Sophie in film musical Mamma Mia! In 2008 (which grossed more than $600 million). It was safe to say that Amanda Segfried had hit the big time. It was on the set of Mamma Mia that she met co-star Dominic Cooper, a British actor who since began dating (though the two are now reported to be on a 'break').
Segfried herself is a self-confessed Anglofile, and to prove it has the word 'minge' (the British slang for a ladies nether-region) tattooed on her foot along with friends (and Mamma Mia British co-stars) Ashley Lilley and Rachel McDowall, a girl gang she has referred to as 'Team Minge'.
She went on to get a lead role in black comedy Jennifer's Body (2009) written by Diablo Cody (of Juno fame) before going on to make make psychological thriller Chloe the same year alongside Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore. (It was during the making of this film that Neeson's wife Natasha Richardson was killed in a freak skiing accident.)
Fluffy rom-com roles followed such as Letters to Juliet (2010) and most recently Dear John, which follows the relationship between a soldier and his pen-pal sweetheart after he is deployed to war. Despite being slated by critics, the latter made a strong box office performance, knocking 'Avatar' off the top spot.
Seyfried is clearly a bankable actress, and all at the relatively young age of 24. Recently Forbes.com (the bastion of celebrity prowess) marked her as one of 2010's '17 stars to watch'. Watching, we are.
