In a nutshell
It would be a travesty if we didn't start by talking about what, in the eyes of most soap fans, is Alan's most famous role - Jim Robinson in Neighbours. So famous, in fact, we're sure Brits and Aussies still see Alan, many years later, giving brilliant performances in shows like Ugly Betty and The OC but still feel the urge to say, 'Do you remember when he used to be Jim Robinson?'. And why not - it was a classic time for the soap.
It's fair to say that Alan has had a pretty amazing acting career, appearing in many of the world's most popular shows including, Lost, The X Files, Ugly Betty, The OC, ER, The West Wing, Torchwood and 24. How many have you spotted him in?
We're hoping this isn't going to happen in real life, of course, but Alan's characters in a number of shows have all croaked from heart attacks. Jim Robinson in Neighbours, Caleb Nichol in The OC and Bradford Meade from Ugly Betty all left us from a dodgy ticker.
Now living in New Zealand, Dale has said that while appearing in Neighbours he often felt more Australian because New Zealanders didn't want to know him. But, now living in LA, we're sure he's used to feeling the love from every part of the globe.
