Mackays hotel Wick
Wick, once home to 10,000 fishermen and the main herring centre of the World, is the ideal place to base your stay in the dramatic and stunning county of Caithness. Learn of a bygone era and discover the natural wonders, ruins and archaeology of the region from the lovely Mackays hotel.

Editor's highlights

  • Food in No.1 Bistro is fantastic
  • Friendly professional owners that create a home from home feel to the hotel
  • Lovely plush well stocked bar
  • Warm, cosy rooms, perfect to relax in after a long day's sight seeing
  • Ideal location for exploring the Caithness coastline
Murray and Ellie Lamont have succeeded in creating a comfortable and homely base in which to explore the local region. Purpose built as a hotel in 1883, Mackays has 30 rooms to choose from yet still retains the warmth and hospitality you might expect of a cosy B&B. Murray and Ellie are always delighted to chat, share their knowledge of the area past and present and help advise you on how best to spend your time. If you're travelling by yourself, you certainly won't feel alone.

Eat in the No. 1 Bistro and be tempted with a menu to suit all dietary requirements and a wine list to suit every palate. Using tasty local produce and fish straight from the boats at Scrabster (North of Wick) all meals are beautifully presented and perfect in size. For dessert, don't miss the Banoffee cheesecake knapped with homemade butterscotch sauce. The No.1 Bistro doesn't just boast good food and wine, but also an address on the shortest street in the World! Ebenezer Place measures just 6 foot nine inches and is large enough to house just the entrance to the Bistro only.

After an evening meal in the Bistro, head to the cosy plush bar. It's friendly, well stocked and at the heart of the Wick community. Treat yourself to a wee dram of the local Old Pulteney whisky before heading off to your cosy bedroom for a good nights sleep. Then of course - wake up to a delicious hearty breakfast consisting of local produce cooked to order including locally smoked haddock. You'll certainly be well rested, comfortable and well fed here!

Nice touches:

  • Wide screen LCD TV
  • Spa bath
  • Temperature controlled wall heater (so many hotels determine your room temperature for you! Not here.)

Perfect for:

  • Older couples
  • Romantic getaway
  • Single travellers
  • Relaxing break
