For a real speed demon the snow mobile tour is one of the unmissable activities in Åre, the Snowmobile Safari as it’s called takes you along the ice lake and up to the tops of Reindeer Mountain.
Snowmobiling through Åre
The 2 hour tour is the most popular for visitors. We began at Åre beach and started off driving east across the Åre lake. This is the perfect start where everyone gets the opportunity to get a feel for the machines and feel safer driving across an open flat stretch of snow, especially since speeds can reach up to 70mph. After a couple of kilometers you then turn on to the mountain and begin the climb to the top.

Included in the price for all snowmobile safaris is insurance for the snowmobile and the driver/passenger. The guide will give you a run down on instructions on how to handle the vehicle and security directives, helmet, snowsuit and boots. The tour gives you a real rush and the overall challenge of coming down the mountain on this huge machine is all part of the adrenalin build up.
The snowmobiles are available almost every day. A booking in advance is required. In order to be allowed to drive a snowmobile a B driver’s license or a driver permit is required. The new comfortable machines have ample room for two. Choose from the four tours available: 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours or a full day.
