Warwick Castle What's it like?
You won't find a more castley-looking stronghold than this one. It's an entertaining place, with actors and visual effects conspiring to create shows such as 'Ghosts Alive', re-enacting the murder of Sir Fulke Grenville, who is said to haunt Watergate Tower. You can also fire the scaled-down trebuchet (those big levers that throw rocks).
What's the story?
There was a fort on the site from the 10th century, but the present castle dates from 1264, with several later additions. It was the home of 20 Earls of Warwick (not all at once) before it was bought by Tussauds in the 1970s.
