The Windows Notification Area (sometimes referred to as the system tray) is the part of the Taskbar at the bottom right of the screen.Lots of different programs use the Notification Area to display status messages or other important information. Windows Update, for instance, uses it to display prompts when fixes and updates need installing. Windows also displays the current time and date in the Notification Area (though XP users must hover the mouse pointer over the time to see the date). Both Vista and Windows 7 offer the option to display the time in two other locations around the world. This is handy when staying in contact with friends and relatives living abroad.Windows XP users don’t have this convenience, but this Workshop explains how to put that right.
