Share USB memory keys on a network

Author: Computeractive staff
Date: 10-01-2009

Thumb-sized USB memory keys have revolutionised the way computer users share and transfer data from one PC to another. They’re easy to plug into any computer, but if you have to copy files from one memory key to a number of computers it can become a bind plugging it in, copying the files, removing it and moving on to the next PC.If the PCs are networked then you can set up a shared folder on the memory key that can be accessed whenever the disk is plugged in. Unlike normal shared folders, though, problems might occur if the memory key’s letter changes (you may have plugged in another device in the meantime that’s appropriated its original disk letter, for example). Read on to find out how to bypass this problem. This step by step guide is also useful for sharing disks generally.
