Freeze spreadsheet panes in Microsoft Excel

When an Excel spreadsheet becomes very large it can be tricky to navigate while maintaining a sense of the information it contains. For example, scrolling through or across a big spreadsheet can cause the row and column headings to disappear off the top or side of the screen, making it difficult to remember what’s what.Similarly, it can be a pain to work on figures in one part of a spreadsheet when the sheer size of the grid means that related cells are positioned off the screen.Fortunately, Excel offers a couple of simple solutions to these problems – the ability to split or freeze panes. In this short Workshop, we’ll show how to make use of both, in all versions of Excel from 2003 onwards.
