Microsoft Word can be used to write anything from a quick memo to an illustrated technical manual running to thousands of pages, but for most, a long document is one whose pages run into double figures.Once a file gets bigger than this, it can be helpful to the reader to include a table of contents. Creating your own table of contents is tedious enough, but it gets even more complicated if the document needs to be edited and all the page numbers changed.Fortunately, Word includes an automated tool that can create or update tables of contents in seconds, and for really long documents there’s a related facility that builds indexes too.
