Many ancient books and manuscripts include chapters and paragraphs with ornate initial letters. Crafted by skilled calligraphers, these works of art add serious impact to the documents.Of course, creating such beautiful designs is hard work and they’re not the kind of thing you’d want to include in everyday documents, like newsletters. However, Microsoft Word does offer a quick and easy way to emulate the effect – dropped capitals, or drop caps for short. In this Workshop we’ll show how drop caps can be easily applied in all versions of Word from 2003 onwards. We’ll even show how to choose a different font style for the initials, to make things even more attractive.Baffled by jargon? See our free online Jargon Buster.
