A lightweight case for laptops
More people than ever carry a laptop around these days, whether for work or study.
Even with the price of portable computers falling, no-one wants to risk damage to a laptop. Hence the existence of specialy adapted bags for computers that are designed to provide some protection against both elements and accidents.
This model from Vax Barcelona is aimed at those who value style a little more than substance. It's part of a range of shoulder bags, carry cases and rucksacks that are available in a range of rather striking colours.
We looked at the Balmes, a lightweight shoulder case with a department for the laptop and two zipped compartments inside.
There's a padded and adjustable shoulder strap and a soft plastic carry handle, which we found a little uncomfortable to hold.
The exterior of the case is rainproof and solid enough and will guard against casual bangs and knocks. The base inside the case offers only a small ridge of padding to cushion against the bag being dropped, though.
We were also concerned that this particular model would not be suitable for the increasingly popular range of mini-laptops, or netbooks, on the market. Unlike some laptop bags, the Blames has no means to prevent the computer sliding from side to side inside the case.
That said, this laptop will suit those who travel short distances with a PC (maximum size 15.4in) as it is light and rather striking. But high-street PC stores sell plainer bags that offer better protection with more storage for less than the £49 this will cost.
The whole range is available at Refuelled.
