Why antivirus software is a must for your PC

The Internet is something that we go on every day and is a facility that many of us could not do without. It has brought many benefits, such as being able to find information instantly with a few clicks of your mouse, and allows us to keep up to date with sporting events taking place right across the world. When browsing the Internet, security and safety may not be at the forefront of your mind, but it’s important that you get your PC covered with the latest antivirus software so that you can visit your favourite sites and be safe in the knowledge that computer viruses don’t pose a threat to your desktop or laptop.

You may take the security of your PC for granted but this would change quickly if you were ever hit by a virus. Losing all of your data, including memorable snaps from your latest holiday, is an experience you won’t want to suffer, but if you did you’d soon make sure you had the best protection available. As always it’s better to be proactive and be prepared before the event just in case it did happen as there is little you can do after your PC has been struck by a virus.

You may be wondering where to start in terms of antivirus software as there a number of products out there, but there are certain things you should be looking for. Features such as the scanning of websites and emails for malicious code is an essential part of antivirus software, as is real-time protection against viruses while you’re surfing the Internet. Protection against spyware is also essential so that your data is kept secure at all times and cannot be accessed by anyone.

If you’re unsure about which product to go for then a good place to start is with a trial that will give you free antivirus software for a limited time. This allows you to try products before you buy and evaluate them without having to fork out any of your hard-earned cash. If you’re happy with the software then you can go ahead and buy a year’s worth of cover after your 30-day trial has expired. On the other hand, you may wish to look at other options and see what they could offer you.

Antivirus software is something that has become more comprehensive over the years as more threats to our safety are always being identified and protection against them being sought.

The software available when the Internet first became a mass-consumer product would stand no chance of protecting you from the online threats of today, and equally the software of today will be no good in a few years time. That’s why it’s important that you continually invest in an up-to-date product that has the latest virus protection available so that you stay one step ahead of the threats.

There is a range of different antivirus software available, each offering you slightly different features. The amount that you spend on protection is entirely up to you, as the cheapest products will give you peace of mind while you’re surfing the web, but if want software that is way ahead of regular protection then the dearer products will fit the bill perfectly. If you plump for the latter then your computer will be immune from all cyber threats and Internet safety is something that you won’t have to give a second thought to.

If you’ve bought a new PC recently, or have upgraded your operating system within the last year then you’ll need to ensure that you get yourself Windows 7 antivirus protection. Windows 7 offers many benefits when compared to previous Microsoft operating systems, but to be able to use those benefits you need to make sure that your computer is protected from online threats.

The latest antivirus software should be compatible with Windows 7, but before buying any products it’s worth double-checking this is the case. By getting your hands on protection that offers seamless integration with the latest Microsoft operating system you can ensure that your applications will continue to run quickly and smoothly. If you have only recently upgraded to Windows 7 within the last few weeks or months then you should investigate as to whether you can get a free upgrade to protection that is compatible.

While there is ample protection for Windows users, those people with a Mac can also rest assured that there is plenty of protection for them. Mac users have slightly different security requirements compared to PC owners and this has been taken into account when the specific antivirus packages have been built. The non-intrusive software can have as little as a one per cent CPU impact on your performance, meaning that you won’t notice the protection running in the background at all.

As a Mac user it’s likely that you have many friends and colleagues that use PCs on a day-to-day basis. If you’re sending data to them, or conversely, if you are receiving data then there’s a possibility that threats could be passed on. One feature of the latest antivirus protection though is that this is prevented, so whatever type of computer you’re sending data to or receiving it from, you can rest assured that any threats will be removed.

Whichever antivirus software you plump for, always ensure that you have the right system requirements. If you have a relatively new desktop or laptop then this is something you won’t need to worry about, but those using older computers need to ensure they have the hardware requirements specified.

By taking just a couple of minutes to ensure that you have the latest, comprehensive antivirus protection available you can enjoy a year’s worth of protection while surfing the net without having to give Internet security a second thought. Antivirus software is a must for your PC or Mac so that you can fight off viruses such as trojan.win32, kido and conficker and keep cyber threats at arm’s length.
