Holland's dejected World Cup squad arrived home on Monday following their 1-0 defeat to Spain in the final.
The Netherlands suffered heartbreak in South Africa on Sunday night when Andres Iniesta netted an 116th-minute goal in the decider to secure Spain's first-ever World Cup trophy.
Bert van Marwijk's team's plane was escorted by two F-16 fighter jets as it touched down at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport late on Monday afternoon.
The runners-up, who were kept away from the public, then held an audience with journalists and photographers in a secured section of the airport.
Following the press encounter, the team were scheduled to be transported by military helicopter to a hotel to be reunited with their families, according to airport spokeswoman Kathelijn Vermeulen.
The 23-man squad, who missed out on lifting Holland's first World Cup trophy, are set to be hosted in The Hague by Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende and Queen Beatrix on Tuesday.
On Tuesday afternoon, the silver-medallists will be honoured with a boat parade through the canals of Amsterdam and a special tribute on a central square.
