Good news for those feeling the strain this Easter: the year's best chocolate egg is sitting in a supermarket near you.
And the winner is... The £8.99 Belgian triple chocolate egg from Tesco saw off competition from a number of luxury chocolatiers in a range of tests conducted by the Good Housekeeping Institute.
More than 20 chocolate experts and tasters ate their way through 33 eggs to find the best buy this Easter.
Whilst Hotel Chocolat, Thorntons and Prestat, all had luxury eggs costing £20 or more tested, it was the cheaper creation by Tesco that took first prize, with a score of 78 out of 100.
As well as announcing an overall winner, the survey by the Good Housekeeping Institute to find the best Easter egg also awarded a number of runner-up places.
Here is its selection of the best eggs on sale in the shops this Easter:
BEST DARK CHOCOLATE EGG
James Chocolates Easter Sundae Egg

Verdict: As it is only a small egg, it lost points on value for money but the tasters rated its rich, cocoa flavour with a hint of coffee and nuts.
Available from: www.waitrose.co.uk
Price: £4.99
Verdict: The judges particularly loved the extra thick chocolate in this egg, which measured nearly half an inch at its thickest point. The two halves of the egg are filled with Belgian white chocolate strawberries.

MOST GENEROUS EGG
