Alcyonium digitatum
Length up to 15cm

Coral-like colonial animals which inhabit a branched, toughened skeleton. Colour rather variable but usually pale pink or yellowish white. When feeding, numerous tiny polyps emerge giving the surface a fuzzy appearance, fancifully resembling a decomposing hand. Widespread on rocky coasts from the lower shore downwards.
