Common Jellyfish
Aurelia aurita
Diameter up to 20cm

A pale, translucent jellyfish which is generally the commonest species around the coasts of Britain and Ireland; sometimes washed ashore in gales. Body colour pale yellowish brown but tinged with bluish purple as it pulsates through water. Underside of 'umbrella' has numerous short tentacles and four frilly mouth arms.
