Height up to 5cm

Widespread and often extremely common on middle and lower shores of rocky coasts around Britain and Ireland. Attaches itself to rocks with sucker-like base. Colour variable but commonly seen as either red or green forms. When exposed to air or disturbed, retracts the 200 or so tentacles to become a jelly-like blob.
