Common and widespread earwig. Found in leaf litter and under stones or logs during daytime. Most active after dark and emerges to feed mainly on detritus and dead organic matter. Easily recognised by chestnut-brown, shiny body and pincer-like cerci at tail end; these are curved in male but rather straight in female. Wings reduced and hence insect is flightless. Occurs throughout year.
