Slender Thistle

Biennial of dry, grassy places, mostly near the sea. Locally common around most coasts except N Scotland. Stems are winged and spiny to the top. Spiny leaves are cottony below. Clusters of pinkish flower heads, 8­10mm across, appear June­August.
