Height up to 60cm

Perennial of grassy places. Locally common in England and Wales. Leaves narrow, clasping or sheathing at base. Flower heads, 30­40mm across, are fringed by bracts and close on dull days and by midday; seen May­August. Fruit a large white 'clock'.
