Height up to 50cm

Clump-forming shrub of sand dunes, calcareous grassland and heaths. Stems armed with straight thorns and stiff bristles. Leaves comprise 7­11 oval leaflets. Creamy white flowers appear May­July; 3­5cm across. Ripe hips purplish black.
