Lesser Spotted Dogfish

Length up to 60cm

Common and widespread fish around the coasts of S Britain and Ireland. Occurs mainly in offshore waters but also sometimes in comparatively shallow seas off muddy shores and the mouths of estuaries. Well-marked with a rough skin. So-called 'mermaid's purses' (egg-cases of this species) often washed up on shores.
