Mountain Ringlet
Erebia epiphron
Wingspan 32mm
Small and surprisingly delicate butterfly given the inhospitable nature of its upland moorland and mountain slope habitat. Flies June-July but only when sunny; remains hidden among vegetation in dull weather. Very local and restricted to Lake District and C Scottish Highlands. Caterpillar feeds on grasses.
