Summer visitor to Britain from April to August. Breeds on marshes and water meadows and mainly confined to E and SE England; local elsewhere in England and Wales and absent from Ireland. Male has greenish yellow upperparts and striking yellow underparts; female has duller plumage. Perches on tall plants and barbed wire. Once learned, tsree-ee call will identify even distant birds in flight.
