Small, short-tailed lark, best known for its wonderful, yodelling song often delivered in flight. Local and rather scarce resident breeding species, found on heaths, young conifer plantations and open woodlands in S England. Has sandy-brown, streaked plumage with chestnut ear coverts, pale supercilium and black and white marking at joint of leading edge to wing. Sometimes perches in trees.
