Length 12-13cm

Larger than superficially similar chiffchaff or willow warbler and with brighter plumage comprising olive-green upperparts, yellow throat and white underparts. Distinctive song, likened to coin spinning on a plate, starts with ringing notes which accelerates into silvery trill. Favours mature woodlands, often beech, with open understorey. Widespread in Great Britain but absent from Ireland.
