Spotted Flycatcher
Muscicapa striata
Length 14cm
Fairly common summer visitor to mainland Britain and Ireland, present from May to August. Adult has rather undistinguished plumage with grey-brown upperparts, streaked on crown, and paler underparts, heavily streaked on breast; juvenile similar but with spotted breast. Easily identified by upright posture and habit of using regular perch from which to make insect-catching aerial sorties. Often breeds around habitation.
