Incessant trilling and fluty song, delivered in flight, can be heard over areas of grassland throughout much of Britain and Ireland and in most months. Plumage rather nondescript with streaked, sandy-brown upperparts and paler underparts; has a short crest. Mostly resident but N birds move S in winter, forming flocks.
