Montagu's Harrier

Both sexes superficially similar in size and appearance to corresponding sex of hen harrier. Male (A) has blue-grey plumage but with less pronounced white rump than male hen harrier and with single dark bar on upperwing and two dark bars on underwing. Female (B) has pale brown plumage with barring on wings and tail. Rare summer visitor from May to August, mainly S England. Seen on migration but occasional pair stays to breed, sometimes returning in successive years to same site. Recent nesting records have occurred in arable fields and on heaths.
