Most likely dumpy, black and white bird seen perched on boulders in fast-flowing stream or river. Bobs body up and down and plunges into water to feed on aquatic insects. Chestnut on breast seen at close range. Flight fast and low over water. Favours upland regions of W and N Britain; more widespread in Ireland.
