French film actor. He is known for his versatility and understated charm. He gained international celebrity in Jean-Luc Godard's seminal French New Wave film A bout de souffle/Breathless (1959). His other films include Cartouche (1961), L'Homme de Rio/That Man from Rio (1964), Godard's Pierrot le fou (1965), Borsalino (1970), Stavisky (1974), and Les Misérables (1995).
