mixed farming
Farming system where both arable and pastoral farming is carried out. Mixed farming is a lower-risk strategy than monoculture. If climate, pests, or market prices are unfavourable for one crop or type of livestock, another may be more successful and the risk is shared. Animals provide manure for the fields and help to maintain soil fertility.
