Canadian rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He lived in the USA from 1966. His high, plaintive voice and loud, abrasive guitar make his work instantly recognizable, despite abrupt changes of style throughout his career.
After the Gold Rush (1970),
On the Beach (1974), and
Rust Never Sleeps (1979, with the group Crazy Horse) are among his best work. He was a member of Buffalo Springfield, a hippie folk-rock group, 196668, and from 1969 a part-time member of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, primarily a vocal-harmony group.
