Walters, Alan Arthur
British economist and government adviser 1981–89. He became economics adviser to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, but his publicly stated differences with the policies of her chancellor Nigel Lawson precipitated, in 1989, Lawson's resignation from the government as well as Walters' own departure. He was knighted in 1983.
