Himalayan mountain on the NepalSikkim border, 8,586 m/28,170 ft high, 120 km/75 mi southeast of Mount Everest. The name means five treasure houses of the great snows. Kanchenjunga was first climbed by a British expedition in 1955.
The blue and white triband is based on the flag of the Central American Federation (CAF), a grouping of African states imposed by the British government in 1953. The stars represent the Federation's five original members. Effective date: 18 January 1949.
