In computing, a special notation in which instructions for controlling a computer are written. Programming languages are designed to be easy for people to write and read, but must be capable of being mechanically translated (by a
compiler or an
interpreter) into the
machine code that the computer can execute. Programming languages may be classified as
high-level languages or low-level languages. See also
