LONDON (Reuters) - A police community support officer stabbed in the neck during an eviction is recovering in hospital after surgery, Greater Manchester Police said on Tuesday.
Gary Etchells had started breathing on his own and was asking for his wife.
Etchells, 47, was admitted to intensive care on Monday after being attacked by a man who came out of a house in Stalybridge during an eviction for a housing association.
A 63-year-old man was arrested and remains in police custody.
Etchells’ wife Andie said her husband, who comes from Glossop in Derbyshire, was "such a good man".
"I was worried I was going to lose him yesterday but thank God he is improving today," she said.
"He is one of those guys who will never tell you about all his achievements, never one to show off even though he does such a fantastic job."
