Police launch shock anti-drug campaign

03/11/2004 01:56

LONDON (Reuters) - London police are using shocking photos showing the facial degeneration of drug addicts in its latest campaign against narcotics.

The images, which will appear on beer mats, billboards and nightclub flyers in 16 drug hotspots in London, show the physical appearance of hard drugs users deteriorating over the years.

The Metropolitan Police force said it had made 146 arrests as a result of raids targeting drug dealers in the last two weeks and had also seized five kilos of Class A drugs like cocaine and more than 30,000 pounds in cash.

"The use of illegal drugs across London devastates communities and the Met is not prepared to tolerate this," Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur said in a statement on Tuesday.
