London underground train derails

18/10/2003 04:19

LONDON (Reuters) - Passengers have been evacuated from a derailed London underground train, in the latest accident to wreak transport havoc on the capital.

"It’s a very low speed derailment at Hammersmith on the Piccadilly Line. No reported injuries," a London Underground spokesman said.

He said all the passengers had been led off the derailed train through another train, and walked to the nearest platform.

The rear wheels of the last carriage had gone off the rails. The cause of the accident was unknown, but an investigation would be carried out, the spokesman said.

Tube service on the Piccadilly Line, one of London’s busiest, was suspended between Acton Town station in west London and the central Hyde Park Corner station, with widespread delays elsewhere on the line, he said.
