Lottery organisers say they have received a claim for a £39.7 million EuroMillions jackpot.

A UK ticket-holder scooped the sum in Friday's draw, the National Lottery operator Camelot said.

The lucky numbers were 18, 37, 8, 16 and 43 with the Lucky Star numbers 2 and 6.

If the claim is valid the lucky winner could have the money paid into their bank account as early as Monday.

They can also decide whether to share their good news with the public.

A National Lottery spokesman said: "We are looking forward to welcoming the lucky ticket-holder to our millionaires club which is already 2,400 strong.

"EuroMillions players in the UK have contributed to the massive £24 billion raised for the good causes over the last 15 years.

"This latest win continues the nation's amazing run of luck with big EuroMillions winners."

The win comes a month after Nigel Page and Justine Laycock won a record-breaking £56 million in the same draw.

Mr Page, a self-confessed "white van man", celebrated Britain's biggest lottery win with a bacon roll.
