Date: 13/3/2010 04:41:08

Search: Mary McLaren

The death of a mother-of-three whose body was found dumped in undergrowth after a night out is being treated as murder, police have said.

Mary McLaren, 34, was last seen on February 25 after a visit to Fat Sams nightclub in Dundee with her sister.

Mrs McLaren was spotted in Marketgait near its junction with King Street at around 3am with a man she met at the club.

Her body was found in undergrowth on an embankment to the north of Ladywell roundabout in Dundee city centre during a search on Wednesday.

Detective Chief Inspector Shaun McKillop, the senior investigating officer on the case, said the investigation was now a murder inquiry.

He said: "A post-mortem examination was carried out today and we are now treating Mary's death as a murder. Forensic examination of the scene will continue over the course of the weekend and we will continue to speak to potential witnesses over the next few days.

"I must stress that at this stage in the investigation we have not detained, arrested or charged anyone in connection with her death.

"However, enquiries are continuing and we are examining all of the witness statements and forensic evidence in a bid to ensure that justice is done for Mary and her family.

"Our thoughts are with Mary's family at this very upsetting and distressing time."

Mr McKillop said the area where Mrs McLaren's body was found was still cordoned off. He said: "We have opened one lane of the Marketgait eastbound to allow traffic to flow. I appreciate the patience shown by members of the public whilst we carry out our enquiries in the area."
